The feature has been available to a very select few during the long test phase. It is now available to everyone.

If you would like to be emailed every time there is a new post you can subscribe in the right pane. Enjoy. I can not help you if it ends up in your SPAM filter, sorry.

The definition of seperate but not equal

The definition of seperate but not equal

I was in Tom Thumb the other day and while washing my hands I read the normal employee hand washing signs. Both of the signs are the same except the one in Spanish at the end they tack on a “muy bueno” (very well or thoroughly). There are a lot of questions: Do people whose primary language is Spanish not normally wash their hands thoroughly and so need to be reminded? Do they think that people whose primary language is English always wash their hands well and do need to be reminded?

It seems incredibly implausible that this wording was not intentional. Every restaurant and office supply store I have been in sells signs that say the exact same thing on both. I also find it incredibly implausible that I am the first person in the country to notice this (I assume these are the corporate standard signs).

I went and spoke to the manager and right away he let me know he did not speak Spanish (in Texas!). I explained the signs and then the add on at the end. He went on about how they are required by law to have them <blah blah blah> . He emphasized that both say all employees must wash their hands so what is the problem? I told him they are not the same and one or the other needs to be changed to match. I left with him saying he would contact his boss and HR, but this is a big issue so it needs to be addressed from the top down.

I guess this is what you get with your uppity, over-priced grocery experience.

Not acceptable! ๐Ÿ™

Over the last few month I have been contacted a few times about writing guest posts for the blog. The first one fell through before it got submitted, and others just die. The one that posted on Wednesday was proof that the process can work. Normally I would not allow the Health Science type post because it is too off topic (If it is going to be off topic it should be me ;-), but it was a good starting place for guest posts. If you are interested in writing a guest post just drop me an email: erikmsblog @ gmail dot com.

The other night we dropped by a Redbox like we have many times before to pick up a couple of movies. This time one of the original movies had been stolen and out came a junk disc. So I call Redbox and report the disc and get a couple free movie rental codes. When asked the guy said it is “happens all the time” that people commit this fraud. Who steals something worth ~$15 new? Plus the Redbox DVDs occasionally have less content so you get something less than the store version, is used, and has no case. On top of that you stole from a company that has you credit card information and keeps track of who checked out the individual discs. I would expect them to charge their normal DVD did not return disc fee of $24 plus tax. In the end you came out worse. So much for sticking it to the man.

The issue with not being able to post comment on the blog has been fixed. This was a bug related to changing hosting providers. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you are still having issues please send me an email at erikmsblog at gmail dot com. Other than the comment issue I think the move was a success and the overall performance is significantly better. Once again sorry for the comment posting problems.

For the few who do post unfortunately I had to add a Captcha because the SPAM has gotten out of control. I have included a dump of how the SPAM has continued to grow on the site. ๐Ÿ™

I took a cruise with Eriksgirl a couple of years ago. We met someone on the cruise and I could tell by the way he talked, and he certainly did not volunteer very much information, that he was into a questionable Internet business. I talked with Eriksgirl about it and she fully agreed that whatever he was doing it was questionable at best. I thought at the time it was probably sending Spam. I knew then that if that was what he was doing I would have thrown him overboard into the middle of the ocean. Maybe I should have asked so we could be down by at least one.

On another note I have not been happy with my hosting provider for a very long time. I will hopefully get the site moved to a new provider within a few months and it will at least be a little faster.

Recently I have begun to suspect that the comment Spam filter has probably captured some legitimate comments. There is no easy way to manually check, there are far too many spam messages, and the filter is working pretty well. If your message does not appear immediately then it was caught by the Spam filter and will never appear. I recommend rephrasing and re-posting. Sorry.

It is hard to believe that over a year has passed. After the loss of my daughter Katarina, umbilical cord problem, I really lost all interest in the lyme/MS world. Enough time has passed that I am interested in delving back into the fray and see what I missed. Hopefully there is plenty of new good stuff to see.

I guess you never know what is going to attract people to your site, but upon looking at the Google site overview I actually have people coming to the site after a search for “Naked Eskimo.” Personally, I don’t find anything fun or entertaining about my tremors: Shakin’ Like a Naked Eskimo ๐Ÿ˜‰
