As I read through the CALDA updates on the IDSA hearing it was striking how the drama and arguments are still the same old stuff. I hope that IDSA protocols improve, but I am less than optimistic.

What I thought was most interesting was even in this hearing there had to be an appeal to crazy. Usually you hear hypochondria but Dr. Arthur Weinstein’s appeal to somatization syndrome was new. Certainly one of the poison pills in that diagnosis is that the problems had to occur before the age of 30. Many Lyme suffers are not in that category. The bigger issue with the medical profession in general, and I have seen repeatedly and separate from Lyme, MS, and me, is that doctors dismiss what they do not understand. The doctors lack of comprehension is especially troubling when it turns into an accusation of crazy. I think it is easy to read maliciousness into being called crazy, but I think this is prime example of where Hanlon’s Razor should be applied. Sadly the level of ignorance and stupidity abounded in that hearing. How can you fix willful stupidity and ignorance?

Eriksgirl thought that the IDSA should be infected with Lyme. If Lyme can be treated like they believe a little Doxycline will cure them. It would be interesting to see how many continue to eat their own dog food if they got Lyme. Maybe someone should have been like Bill Gates and his mosquitoes and brought a jar of ticks to the meeting.

  1. Well, they need to get tick bit, and then just sit on it for a year or so, and see if all the symptoms are in their heads. Not really wishing harm per se, but I would love to see if their stance changed after that.

  2. Perhaps someone should update the president’s physicians on the current standards of treatment, as it appeared Bush’s didn’t seem to be following them (

  3. Hi,
They have been in bed with the pharmaceutical industry for over a hundred years and they have not cured even one disease in more then a half century, zip. So with the health care system turning into a black hole for a nations budget the need to classify diseases such as Lyme as it is all in your head becomes paramount. The razor of truth and reality needs to be applied to the whole medical field and the drug industry. It is people like yourself who are a angry and informed that will pull the curtains on this weak, pathetic Wizard of OZ system we have for health care. Paul

  4. Dear Eric…I dislike writing and my story is very long so I’m making this very brief: Had Lyme Bull’s Eye Rash in 1984, had numerous symptoms over next 23 years but could not get treated because I had a negative Erisa. After an operation in 1998 had severe constant pain and finally found a Dr. who would treat me for Lyme using my info from the net. Antibiotics helped me, but as soon as I stopped them the symptoms would return. In 2008 found The Marshall Protocol on line…sounded good to me ,but my Dr. was leery so I wasted the next 9months with an infectious disease Dr. who gave me 4 months of doxy. which I knew would be useless and it was! Convinced my Dr. to help me with The Marshall Protocol and 3 months later for the first time my pain has reduced 70% and I know I am on the way to recovery. He has been having great success with his protocol and this is all for free. So I hope you will go to his website and read the science behind it. And don’t let the naysayers scare you off like they did me. Everyone is protecting their bottom line as he makes some very controversial statements. I find it appalling that Dr. won’t at least try his protocol if it doesn’t work you can always go back to the drugs for MS that we already know don’t work!!!!!!!! Dian
